How to use Collage Maker

  1. Add your photos

Drop in the images you want to combine.

  2. Choose a layout

Pick a grid. Fewer, larger photos almost always read better than many small ones.

  3. Arrange and adjust

Photos fill the cells in the order you added them, so remove and re-add to change the arrangement. Spacing, border radius and background colour are all adjustable.

  4. Export

Download at a resolution appropriate to where it will be used.

When to use Collage Maker

  • Combining before-and-after photos into one comparison image
  • Making a single shareable image from a set of holiday photos
  • Building a simple product grid for a listing
  • Putting several screenshots into one image for documentation

FAQ

You can add up to 9 images in a single collage using various grid layouts.
Yes. You can control the gap size and border radius for a polished look.
Four to six for anything viewed on a phone. Beyond that individual photos become too small to read, and two separate collages communicate more than one crowded grid.
Cells have fixed aspect ratios, so a photo of a different shape is cropped to fit, always from the centre. The position within a cell is not adjustable here — crop the photo to roughly the cell’s proportions first and the centred fit will then land correctly.
Around 2048 px on the longest side covers social and messaging comfortably. Larger only helps if the collage will be printed.
Yes. They are scaled and cropped to fit their cells. Images of wildly different resolutions can look inconsistent, so check the result at full size.

About Collage Maker

A collage solves a specific problem: you have several images and one slot to put them in. Messaging apps, social posts and listings frequently accept a single image, and a well-made grid communicates far more than picking one photo and dropping the rest.

Restraint is what separates a good collage from a bad one. Four photos at a decent size read clearly on a phone; sixteen become a mosaic of unidentifiable thumbnails. If you have a lot of images, make two collages rather than cramming everything into one.

Pay attention to how each photo is cropped into its cell. Grid cells have fixed aspect ratios, and a portrait photo dropped into a landscape cell gets cropped from the centre, which is often not where the subject is. There is no way to nudge a photo within its cell here, so crop it to roughly the cell’s shape first — Crop Image does that — and the automatic centring will then land where you want it.

Tips and limits

  • Four to six photos is the practical maximum for something viewed on a phone.
  • Cells crop from the centre and cannot be nudged. Pre-crop a photo whose subject is off to one side.
  • Consistent spacing and a single background colour make a collage look deliberate.
  • Use photos of similar brightness; one much darker image dominates the whole grid.
  • Export large enough for the destination, but compress before uploading.
