Converting files in the browser
Nothing here is uploaded, so every conversion is bounded by what your own browser can already decode and encode. That single fact explains almost all of the limits below, and it is also why these tools are instant: there is no queue and no round trip.
Getting things out of a PDF
Three tools start from the same PDF and answer different questions. PDF to Image renders the pages, at up to 300 dpi, as PNG or JPG — WEBP is Premium — returning one file or a ZIP when there are several. PDF to Word pulls the text out and groups it back into paragraphs. PDF to Excel looks for a table and writes CSV.
Both text tools need a real text layer. A scan has none, and they say so rather than hand you an empty document. The route from a scan to text is PDF to Image first, then Image to Text or OCR PDF over the images.
Audio
Video to Audio and Audio to WAV share a decoder. Video to Audio lifts the soundtrack out of a video; Audio to WAV takes an audio file and lets you change the sample rate and the channel count on the way through. Run them in that order when you need both — extract first, then resample.
Archives
ZIP / UNZIP builds archives and opens them. What it builds is stored, not compressed: the archive is valid everywhere and exactly as big as its contents, which is what you want for grouping files and not what you want for saving space. Reading is broader — it unpacks stored and deflated entries alike.
What these tools cannot do
- PDF to Word writes a .doc that Word opens. It is Word-flavoured HTML, not a .docx, and images, tables and multi-column layout do not survive the trip.
- PDF to Excel writes CSV — no sheets, no formulas, no formatting. A table held together by whitespace rather than ruled lines often cannot be told apart from ordinary prose, and the tool says so instead of inventing columns.
- Audio to WAV and Video to Audio produce WAV and nothing else. Browsers ship audio decoders but not encoders, so MP3, AAC, FLAC and OGG output are not possible in a page. Budget roughly 10 MB per stereo minute.
- Video to Audio decodes the whole file in memory with the browser decoder, so MP4 and WebM generally work and MKV and older AVI generally do not.
- HTML to PDF opens a print window and hands your markup to the browser. Pop-ups have to be allowed, the page size and margins are the browser choice rather than the tool, and the PDF only exists if you select Save as PDF as the print destination.
- ZIP / UNZIP does not read RAR or 7z, and it cannot open an encrypted archive.
- PNG to JPG flattens transparency onto a colour you pick. There is no tool here going the other way, because adding an alpha channel back to a JPG does not recover anything.
- Time Zone Converter carries 20 zones, not the full IANA database, and converts to one at a time.
Free accounts convert one file at a time, up to 10 MB; Premium raises that to 50 files and 100 MB. Time Zone Converter, Temperature Converter and HTML to PDF have no limits at all.
