About Reorder Pages

Most reordering jobs come from one specific cause: scanning a double-sided document on a single-sided feeder. You scan all the fronts, flip the stack, scan all the backs, and end up with pages 1, 3, 5, 7 followed by 8, 6, 4, 2. Recognising that pattern makes the fix quick, because the second half simply needs reversing and interleaving.

The other common case is a document assembled from several sources where one section ended up in the wrong place. Dragging a block of pages is much faster than extracting and re-merging, and avoids the quality and metadata questions that come with splitting a file apart.

Reordering is lossless — pages are rearranged, not re-rendered — so there is no quality cost and the file size stays the same.

Tips and limits

  • Double-sided scans on a single-sided feeder produce 1,3,5,7,8,6,4,2. Reverse the back half and interleave.
  • Select multiple pages to move a whole section at once rather than dragging page by page.
  • Reordering is lossless and does not change file size.
  • Printed page numbers do not update — they are part of the page content.
  • Do this before signing. Moving pages afterwards can displace or invalidate a signature.
