About Rotate PDF

A rotated PDF page is almost always a scanning artefact rather than anything wrong with the content. Sheet feeders pick up pages in whatever orientation they were stacked, and phone cameras record an orientation flag that not every PDF tool honours.

The important distinction is between rotating the view and rotating the file. Every PDF reader lets you turn a page on screen, but that is a temporary display setting — it is not saved, and the next person to open the document sees it sideways again. Rotating here changes the page in the file itself, so the fix travels with the document.

Rotation is lossless. Pages are not re-rendered or re-compressed, only re-oriented, so text stays sharp and file size is essentially unchanged.

Tips and limits

  • Rotating in your PDF reader only changes your view — it is not saved into the file.
  • Rotation is lossless. Nothing is re-encoded and quality is unaffected.
  • The page list shows sizes, not previews of each page, so check the exported file — documents scanned in batches often have only some pages rotated.
